Zake: I have been fascinated with the way bodies work for over 36 years. I think it started when I began to learn and practise Hatha Yoga at the age of Over time, I studied other types of body work, developing my unique brand of Body Logic. After adopting my movement innovations, they were quickly hooked on my methods. For example, one of my most popular body work practices, Yamuna Body Rolling, has become a transformative, self-help practice people of all walks of life now undertake using balls to condition the body.

Sixty-five-year-old Yamuna is a Chicago born internationally acclaimed body practitioner. At the age of 14, she started practising Hatha Yoga.
Later, she set up a yoga and healing arts centre, Serenity while she was completing her graduate studies at Bank Street College of Education in New York City. Today, she has taken her understanding of the body and created new body sustainability practices and therapy that help the body heal. With her venture, Yamuna Body Rolling, she takes the practice to different parts of the world.
So far, she has conducted trainings in over 38 countries and there are over certified Yamuna practitioners across the world, with an impressive client list that also includes top athletes. Embracing the technology wave, she even offers these practices through videos that people can buy and practice from the comfort of their homes.
Yamuna calls herself a body sustainability practitioner. Body sustainability, she cautions, should not be confused with fitness. Her job as a body practitioner entails educating people on how to work safely and correctly with their bodies. She is trained to help people understand their alignment, gait and their injuries and the processes of correcting them.

She had torn muscles around her hip during delivery and had consulted various doctors, but none of their treatments worked. But when she left his office one day, her leg dislocated just as she stepped off the curb of the sidewalk. I looked in the mirror, and this whole leg was just hanging. Suddenly, I realized that I had never looked at my leg.
No one looked at how bad the alignment was. Zake became determined to fix her leg herself.
She had been practicing yoga since she was 14—at the time she gave birth to Yael, Zake owned one of the first three yoga centers in New York City, according to her—so she already had a history of working with her body. She began to do postures to try to solve the structural problem none of her doctors had been able to pinpoint precisely. And in two weeks, my leg was stable.
After Zake was able to stabilize her leg and hip, she began to use the knowledge she had gained to work with her yoga students at the time.
